The Toasted Story

Toasted opened its doors back in 2001 on Barrys Point Road in Takapuna, the brainchild of a talented young roaster named Chris Innes. From day one, Chris set out to prove that a small Auckland roastery could hold its own against the best in the country — and it didn't take long for word to get around.

As the wholesale side of the business grew, so did the need for more space. In 2014, Toasted moved into a larger site on Link Drive, Wairau Park — a former bakery given a full refit to house a growing roastery, warehouse and café all under one roof.

The name "Toasted" was chosen to capture that feeling of celebrating success — of raising a cup and "toasting" to a job well done. By 2017, Chris had built the brand to a point where he was ready for his next chapter. That's when Scott and Deb stepped in, buying the business in September that year.

It was an unlikely pairing on paper: Scott brought 28 years in IT infrastructure, leading large teams and complex operations. Deb brought 18 years in magazine publishing with Bauer Media, working across commercial brand management. Neither had a roastery nor hospitality background — but both had a shared belief that great coffee, genuine relationships done properly, could build something special.

Since then, Toasted has grown into a team of 28 that we're genuinely proud of — roasting, training, and supplying cafés across New Zealand and the Pacific Islands with a level of care that can only come from being proudly independent and family owned. We're still a small, close-knit crew, and that's exactly how we like it. Family is at the core of who we are — it's how we connect, how we work, and how we do business.
