Ethiopia Kochere Boji
Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Kochere Boji
About the bean:
Ethiopia is frequently cited as the birthplace of coffee, rich in varietal diversity and responsible today for some of the finest specialty coffee in the world.
Boji is the name of the washing station in the Ch’elelektu village where this coffee is processed. It is grown in the surrounding region by multiple smallholders numbering around 500. This coffee is from the Yirgacheffe region, which is synonymous with quality.
Until 2017 all coffee in Ethiopia was sold through the Ethiopian Coffee Exchange (ECX). The ECX would grade coffee (Grade 1 to 5), and allocate it to a region, meaning that traceability back to the washing stations was not easy, if possible at all. This change in legislation has allowed quality recognition direct to the people who have produced these top quality coffees, as well as continued separation of the top lots to be sold at a premium through these new direct relationships.
